‘A Rare Bird’ – A Design, Print and Machine Embroidery Course – New Dates 2022

£195

‘A Rare Bird’ is a four day ‘design for stitch’ course spanning a number of weeks aimed at those with experience in machine embroidery and creative textiles. The first two studio days are focused on structured design and printing workshops working with a variety of colouring and paper media in a concertina sketchbook, creating the platform on which to form your textile design and the following weeks are used to compose your wall hanging with your choice of bird/s as your subject.  Please get in contact to register your interest in the next course in Autumn 2022

Description

Your subject could be an English garden bird or an exotic colourful parrot..you may choose to focus in the end on a closeup of the wings/detail of the bird and produce an abstract piece or a more figurative piece with a number of birds. Whatever your chosen bird Alex will mentor you through the ‘design.. to stitch’ process through structured practical art days – and we will try and get a stitch day in there also. The stitch techniques and materials you choose to make up your final design will be lead by you but with a shoulder to lean on if need be. You will need to set aside some time to work on the piece at home but the four days in the studio will give you a structured timetable to which to work to – and you will benefit from being with a group and the support like minded individuals will give each other along the way. With thanks to the LTT members and to the 2021 group for these pictures. Please contact Alex to discuss further if you wish prior to booking.

Day One : Mixed media approaches with Concertina Sketchbooks working particularly with inks and metallic paint.

Day Two: Digital and Gelli Plate Printing with Kathy G.  Painting fabric and paper to incorporate into bird collage and main  wall hanging.  Smaller birds digitally printed to be individually stitched.
