Stunning wall hanging created over the course of two days with Vendulka. Expect a lot of machine stitching, layering, revealing and slashing. Not for the faint hearted but results are definitely worth it!

On this two day workshop we will be creating a wall hanging using 7-8 layers of fabric which are cut through and cut out to reveal the different layers. We will create a pattern on the fabric with stitch and scissors, you can then decorate it with hand stitch, beads, buttons, ribbons etc. If you like creativity and playfulness with fabric, this is the class for you! Images shown here are by students on her last workshop here.

Skill Level

As long as your confident on your machine you will be fine!

You will need 7-8 layers of fabrics – each of them to be the same size – I recommend fat quarter size or 30 cm of the width of the fabric to make an interesting wall hanging. As we will create pattern / design of the hanging with the different fabrics exposed, you will mostly need plain-ish fabric or with small pattern of colour on colour.

Out of these 8 fabrics: one will be on the top and this one should be plainish fabric, you will also need two which are in a contrasting colours, we will be exposing some layers and this should bring interesting effect. All the others can be similar in colours, they can have small patterns even, it will more or less get lost in it. Just bring a selection and we can always decide which one to use on a day.
Matching threads.
Pointy scissors, with good sharp tip!
Chenille cutter if you have one – not essential.
Fabric marker, which will be easy to see on the fabric you have chosen for the top.
Sewing machine + walking foot if you have one.
Ruler (we don’t need the mat or cutter)
Usual sewing kit with pins, etc.
Beads, buttons for decoration on
the second day.

This was an amazing workshop. A bit scary if you are not used to this kind of thing…. but no need to be. Vendulka takes you through the process step by step and puts you at ease with her style and expertise. This project will take you beyond the two days, so the excitement continues at home adding your own embellishments. Wonderful workshop which has given me loads of confidence for future projects. Thanks to Vendulka and of course Alex… and Frank. x
