‘Golden Koi’ – An illustration workshop with Janie Pirie – *New for 2023

An opportunity to explore working in gold leaf with the highly talented botanical coloured pencil Artist; Janie Pirie.

 

 

Description

Spend a day of fun and creativity using 23.5ct gold leaf to create a glistening image of a Koi carp – or several if you prefer!  You will be shown how to use the gold leaf to make it shine, just as it was for Medieval manuscripts centuries ago.  Once the gold is ‘set’ watercolour or coloured pencils can be added to make your fish illustration come to life.  You will need to bring a small, pointed paintbrush (size 00, 1 or 2), a small container for clean water, (for the adhesive) and your watercolours or coloured pencils.  You will be provided with a ‘pack’ containing good art paper, tracing paper, glassine, adhesive and one sheet of 23.5ct gold leaf for a fee of £3.  Further sheets of gold leaf can be purchased at £2 on the day, if you decide to do more fish!

Requirements:

£3 for Janie to cover her materials.

Gold leaf will be supplied, together with the ‘glue’ and art paper.  You will need to bring a very fine and pointed paint brush (but not an expensive one), a larger, stiffer brush for brushing away residue gold and then some coloured pencils or watercolours.
