A fabulous opportunity to work with Suzette Smart all be it remotely.  She has designed this machine embroidery workshop to be delivered to your door,  incorporating lots of techniques evocative of her own unique style : building stories through collage, stitch and mixed media.

Fully booked - please email to be added to the waiting list

The piece I have designed for this workshop takes inspiration from some of my recent work where I bring the outside in in a series of still life’s. If you’re like me, you won’t stop at just one but will soon have a small collection.

An illustrated step by step workshop in a box which combines fabric collage and free machine embroidery. The final stitches are by hand which allows you to sit, enjoy and contemplate your next piece of work.

For those who have some experience of collage and free machine embroidery, there are clear and illustrated instructions to follow so you won’t be left alone and a choice of templates for the jug too. For the more experienced, there are choices and ideas along the way where you can add a little more and develop the piece further.  Upon purchase you will be invited to a dedicated, Facebook page where you can ask questions and post your work for feedback.

Follow the steps and learn techniques for fabric collage and free machine stitching  which can be taken and used in new projects. There are ideas for composition, threads and hand stitching too.

In the box you will find all the fabrics needed to make this design, including mixed media samples, specially selected fabrics for the honesty, allium, berries and background. Also, calico for your foundation fabric and Bondaweb.

There is always room to add something from your own fabric stash like a piece of lace or repurposed sari silk.

For those with some experience of machine embroidery and more experienced stitchers.

Please allow for up to a two week delivery turnaround from day of purchase.

Artist Bio:

I’m a Textile Artist and Tutor living in a rural hamlet in North Shropshire. The natural world outside my door as well as the familiar journeys along the towpath close by, are my greatest source of inspiration for stitching and storytelling.

I’m not a light stitcher and I never manage to tell all in the first layer but prefer to build a story through collage, thread and a little mixed media. My work often includes hidden histories in the inherited or found fabrics and repurposed embroideries (own and other) I choose to use for collage and sometimes as my foundation layer. I mainly use free machine embroidery but the finishing stitches are often by hand. As I have a strong sense of narrative, you will find that whatever the piece of stitch, there is always a tale to tell.

Mine is still underway but I am thoroughly enjoying the experience and the connection with the other ladies in the group. Suzette has given lots of support and encouragement throughout and has replied quickly to any queries. What’s not to like I say!
