Description
Anyone for another foray into the world of Eco printing and dyeing?
In this two day course I will show you how to make two separate pieces, one a long hanging and the other a smaller piece with 3D additions.
On the first day we will be making the long hanging using a variety of natural fabrics, including silk velvet, silk organza, linen, cotton, sari silk and calico. The fabrics will be joined together using a combination of hand and machine stitching. At the end of the day the hanging will be layered with leaves and rolled up ready for me to take home and simmer.
The second day will start with unrolling the hanging! After this we will sew and print the smaller piece, using the techniques we learned creating the long hanging and utilising the left over bits of fabric (waste not want not). I will show you how I create the 3D additions that will be added to the finished piece.
Basic machine sewing exp required. If you need to borrow a machine send Alex and email.
Fabrics and Leaves
I will bring along a selection of fabrics for you to have included in the workshop fee, but if you bring any fabric scraps – all to be pale/neutral colours and plain – maybe a bit of old cotton lace, cotton hankies, linen tablecloth scraps (as long as they are natural fabrics) – you will not need anything bigger than 10” square. Can you please make sure these fabrics have been washed so as to remove any finish they may have on them. I will also bring along a selection of threads you can use for hand sewing. I will send out a list of the types of leaves you can use closer to the time.
