Create a gorgeous wall hanging with Melanie Missin Keating via video tutorial and material box delivered to your door.  Learn her mixed media techniques and hone your free motion embroidery skills at the same time!

To make this wall hanging we will be trying a few different techniques, using interfacing, organza as well as using tree prints from Indian blocks and transfer paint/dyed paper . The piece will be free motion stitched and embellishments can be added should you wish to do so. A soldering tool is used to complete the piece. You can also use your own wooden blocks should you wish to incorporate them in your piece.’ Full instruction will be given by video tutorial and a written pattern and Mel also demonstrates how to print using transfer dyes and thickener to create a dye paint can be used with printing blocks.

Skill Level

Some experience of free motion embroidery required.


  • Sewing machine in good working order with manual
  • Darning foot for free motion machining
  • Sewing kit – sharp scissors, needles, pins, quick unpick etc.
  • Pen, pencil, fabric marker pen, ruler and notebook
  • Cotton or rayon threads, metallic threads ,Variegated threads in browns and greens for trees and grass. not polyester threads.
  • Soldering tool
  • Old iron and greaseproof paper
