Description
A celebration of these beautiful birds in unique stitched collages.
Nigel will provide a number of printed panels as the central focus. In addition to this students are encouraged to bring your own fabric samples, scraps, motifs of their own and heritage pieces to compliment these. He will work with each individual to compose their stitched piece/s.
*Students have the choice to incorporate machine embroidery or work in purely hand stitch.
Please bring £10 for Nigel on the first day.
Included in the pack of materials are a selection of unique ‘Cheney’ kingfisher, crane and heron prints on cotton and a backing fabric to start to piece your collage onto.
A selection of additional prints will be available to buy from £5 each.
Please see this workshop as a collaboration between the artwork Nigel brings and your own selection of fabrics to collage with. These could be hand dyed, eco dyed, gel prints, remnants from a favourite piece of clothing, vintage finds from your fabric stash, scraps left over from other projects, interesting woven selvedges or even half finished samples from other workshops that need a home.
It is the textile ‘stories’ that these unique fabrics hold that will bring your piece alive.
What you need to bring:
Basic sewing kit (pins, needles, scissors)
Sewing machine (if required ) and darning foot.
Embroidery hoop (5 to 7 inch)
Your own fabrics/trims and personal choice of threads for hand or machine.
