‘Flower Power’ – Textile Wall Panel over three days * 2025

£160

Description

The course emphasis is on individual exploration with paint and ink, creating layers using a variety of made & commercial stencils and screens.  The first day is spent spraying, masking and printing before deciding on your area that will work for a background to be heavily machine and hand stitched. We will cover quilting, machine applique using bonding methods, work with transfer foils and finally embellish with hand stitch. Students will choose their own floral designs turning to folk art as initial inspiration for appliqued motifs.  The outcome will be a dynamic & contemporary textile wall hanging individual to the student-  they will all will look very different – determined by your colour choices, stencils used and fabrics applied.

The panel can be square – 30cm-30cm is a good size or a long rectangle will work well.

The course will run on a Wednesday every two weeks. Students should allow for work at home during this period.

Pre- requisite for the course – confident with Free machine embroidery and happy to get messy and experiment with inks and paints.

Day One – Creating printed and stencilled back grounds . Creating own stencils.

Day Two – Machine ‘quilting’ decorative stitched. Begin to Applique Velvet Motifs.
