Description
To create a monoprint, acrylic paint with an added extender is rolled thinly onto a sheet of rigid plastic, fabric or paper is lightly placed on to the ink and then by drawing on the fabric this allows the pressure of the pencil to pick up ink from the reverse. We will experiment making different marks on fabric and paper before creating a more considered image on fabric. A number of monoprints will be made on fabric and tissue paper so you will have pieces to take home to develop further as well.
On day two we will add hot wax as a resist then use drawing inks to add colour to the prints. The books may consist of individual pages or a panoramic composition. Your landscape may be inspired by a favourite place or journey so feel free to bring images to spark your imagination
We will concentrate on creating our monoprinted batik landscape books or scrolls but if students wish to back them with plain fabric that is more likely to be completed at home, these will be suitable for adding to with hand or machine stitch at a later date.
