Pheasant, Honesty, Butterfly with Jenny Adin-Christie *2027

A fabulous opportunity working with renowned professional hand embroiderer, designer and tutor Jenny Adin-Christie.  Participants will have the chance to learn an eclectic range of hand embroidery techniques in metal thread to create either an Honesty panel, a Mosaic Pheasant, Seaside Houses scene, or a Millefiori Butterfly Brooch. These designs principally used metal thread work techniques such as couching, or nué, working with pearl purl and use of cut smooth purl, but with the addition of other delicious materials such as mesh ribbons, fettuccine ribbons, beads and sequins.

The Honesty design is based on the architectural skeletal form of honesty seed pods. Worked on a ground of delicate silk organza, it uses a wide range of techniques and materials including shadow work and shadow applied papers, wool work and metal thread work, with the addition of eyelets and sequins.

This design of coloured seaside houses is based on the concept of Fiddler’s Green, the heaven to which sailors go to. It is a brilliant introduction to the techniques required to create stumpwork buildings such as working slips, counted thread brickwork, metal plate, silk shading, use of silk gimp, metal purls and silk wrapped purls. Once complete, the design motif is cut out and mounted over a raised form to give a sense of greater depth.

You will not be able to finish a project in two days but will learn the key techniques and will be provided with a highly comprehensive instruction manual to allow you to complete confidently at home.

You will be provided with a full working kit containing all the materials and needles required to complete your chosen design.

Kit prices are on top of the tuition fee and are detailed below –  available to purchase directly from Jenny on the day of the workshop. Jenny also loans out and sells equipment too which you can pre-order for the day.  A form will be sent upon booking asking what project you would like to order and what, if any equipment you need. Jenny has a comprehensive list of materials for each project that I will email upon request. It includes things like hoops, stand, scissors, needles etc.
